Objective

Yanmar wanted to reach new audiences across several European markets at once and walk them through the company's story — from its earliest engines to its current agricultural, construction and marine machinery. The campaign also had to put current products in front of prospective buyers, reward existing customers, and send traffic to key pages on Yanmar's corporate site.

Solution

Every day for 24 days, players open the next door on an advent calendar. What's behind it changes: some doors hold a quiz on Yanmar's history and equipment, others reveal a piece of branded content — a photo, video or short story — with a button through to a related page on Yanmar's site, and others offer an instant-win game with a prize on the spot. Each activity earns points that feed a running leaderboard, and players are reminded along the way that whoever sits on top when the calendar closes wins a secret grand prize. The whole countdown ran in English, French, German and Italian, so players in each market followed it in their own language.

Results

More than 500,000 shares of the game were recorded worldwide.

How it plays

8 steps
  1. 1

The player opens the experience to an advent-style calendar: a 24-cell grid of numbered days branded for Yanmar, available in English, French, German, or Italian.

  2. 2

Before playing, the player completes a registration form; skipping it means points and prize entry don't count.

  3. 3

Only the current day's cell is unlockable — future days stay locked and open one at a time, once per day.

  4. 4

The player taps the open cell to launch that day's level, whose type is not known in advance: a quiz that asks about Yanmar's history, products, or recent developments and awards points for correct answers; a content piece — text, image, or video on the brand's story — that ends with a call-to-action linking to a Yanmar product or business page; or an instant-win level that reveals immediately whether the player has won a prize that day.

  5. 5

Points earned each day add to a running total, and the player sees their rank on a global leaderboard alongside players from other countries and language versions.

  6. 6

Throughout the calendar, the game reminds players of a secret grand prize reserved for the top scorer, encouraging a return visit each day.

  7. 7

Players share their experience, which drove the campaign's headline result of over 500,000 shares worldwide.

  8. 8

After all 24 days are opened, the calendar closes; final leaderboard standings decide who wins the grand prize.
