Terms of Use

Last updated: 12 October 2026

These terms cover reading wellplayedawards.com and sending us material. The site is free, has no accounts and sells nothing, so the terms are short. By using the site or sending us something, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

Who runs the site

The Well Played Awards (wellplayedawards.com) is operated by an independent publisher based in Portugal. You can reach us at [email protected]. The operator's full legal details are available on request at the same address.

In these terms, "we", "us" and "the editors" mean the operator.

What the library is

The Well Played Awards is a free, editorial library of playable marketing: games that brands commission to launch products, build loyalty and sell. The editors set the criteria, which are on our About page, and decide what goes in. Each page is researched and drafted with the help of automated tools, including AI, and checked against its sources. See "How we review and moderate" below.

Each page records a project as it was when it ran. Campaign games end, sites get redesigned and domains change hands. Where the original is gone, we may link to an archived copy instead. We work hard to get the facts right and check figures against their sources, but we can't guarantee that every detail is complete or current. If you spot a mistake, please tell us.

Independent, and never paid for

No placement on this site is paid for: not a page, a collection, a featured row or anything else.

We're not affiliated with the brands, agencies, studios, award shows or platforms we list or cite, unless a page says so. A listing doesn't mean they endorse us, or that we endorse them or their products.

Our annual award, A Well Played, will have its own rules. We'll publish them when nominations open.

Using the site

You're welcome to read, share and link to any page. You can quote our texts, crediting The Well Played Awards and, online, linking to the page you quote. Search engines and AI systems may crawl, index and learn from our pages, as our robots.txt says. That permission covers our own texts and data only. It can't cover material that belongs to other people.

Our own texts, our data and the way the library is selected and organised belong to us. Screenshots, video, game material and logos belong to their owners, so we can't give you permission to reuse them. See Copyright & Removal.

Please don't:

  • overload or disrupt the site;
  • try to get around its security, including the protection on our forms;
  • send spam, malware or automated submissions;
  • copy the library in bulk to republish it as your own catalogue or database;
  • remove credits or source links when you reuse our material;
  • suggest that we endorse you, or pretend to be us.

Automated access is fine if it follows robots.txt and keeps a reasonable pace.

Sending us material

You can send us games, credits, corrections, removal requests and files, through the forms or by email.

The forms for submitting a game and adding a credit show a link to these terms under the send button. Sending one of them means you accept these terms for that submission.

When you send something, you confirm that:

  • it's accurate as far as you know;
  • you're entitled to share it, because you made it, you own the rights, or you have permission (for example from the brand or the agency);
  • it doesn't infringe anyone's rights;
  • it doesn't include personal data that the person concerned wouldn't expect us to publish;
  • it isn't illegal, malicious, or confidential information you aren't allowed to share.

You keep ownership. What you send stays yours, or stays with whoever holds the rights. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use it for the library. Under this licence we can:

  • store, reproduce, publish, edit and translate it;
  • adapt it, for example by resizing or re-encoding files, or by taking frames or excerpts;
  • use it in newsletters and social media posts that promote the library.

The service providers that run the site may handle it for us, but only for these purposes.

The licence lasts as long as the material is in the library. If it's removed, we stop using it anywhere new. Copies already sent in newsletters or posted on social media may remain. Copies in our internal archives and backups aren't public, and we don't republish from them unless we reverse the removal.

Nothing here affects your moral rights as an author. We don't pay for submissions, and we don't have to publish them. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your personal data.

How we review and moderate

  • Review. The editor reviews every submission against the criteria on our About page. Cloudflare Turnstile and per-address limits filter out spam automatically.
  • Research and automated checks. We research projects with automated tools, including AI. These tools gather sources, check facts and media, and screen projects against our criteria.
  • Publishing. Some pages are published after these automated checks without a further manual step. The editor reviews a weekly summary of what was published and can withdraw any page at any time.
  • Our discretion. We may decline, edit, shorten, correct, recategorise or remove any submission or page. For example, we may do this because it doesn't meet our criteria, is inaccurate, raises a rights or privacy concern, or isn't up to our standard.
  • Telling you why. We may remove or decline something you sent because we believe it's illegal or breaks these terms. If we do and we have your email, we'll tell you what we did and why, whether automated tools were involved, and how you can challenge the decision.

Complaints. If you disagree with a decision about something you sent or reported, reply to our message or write to [email protected] within six months. A person will review the decision and tell you the outcome. You can always take a dispute to court.

Links and archived copies

The library links to games, case studies, sources and archived copies on other sites. The videos and images on our pages are delivered from our own media storage, not embedded from other sites. We don't control the sites we link to, and a link isn't an endorsement. Their own terms and privacy policies apply.

We check links regularly, but a campaign's domain can change hands after the campaign ends. If a link looks wrong, please tell us.

No guarantees

We provide the site free of charge, as it is and as available. We don't promise that it will always be online or free of errors, or that the information on it is complete, accurate or up to date. Nothing on the site is legal, financial or professional advice. Check important facts with the original source.

Our liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for:

  • harm to anyone's life, health, or physical or moral integrity;
  • financial or property damage caused outside a contract (non-contractual damage), to you or to anyone else;
  • damage that we, or anyone acting for us, cause intentionally or through gross negligence;
  • anything else the law doesn't allow us to exclude or limit.

Nothing here affects your rights as a consumer.

Within those limits, and because the library is free, we're not liable for loss or damage arising from:

  • relying on information in the library;
  • third-party sites or content that we link to;
  • the site being temporarily unavailable.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows when the current version was published. For significant changes, we'll also post a notice on the site. The terms in force on the day you send us something apply to that submission.

Law and courts

These terms are governed by Portuguese law. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live.

Disputes go to the competent courts in Portugal. If you're a consumer, you can also bring a claim in the courts where you live, and we can bring a claim against you only there.

Contact points

For anything, write to [email protected]. That includes questions, corrections, removals, privacy requests and legal notices.

The same address is our single point of contact under the EU Digital Services Act, for users and for authorities, the European Commission and the European Board for Digital Services. We accept messages in English and Portuguese. A person reads every message.
