Objective
Chococam — the Cameroonian confectioner behind Mambo, Big Gum and Bonbon Kola — wanted a single push that could raise awareness across its brand portfolio and reward loyal shoppers with prizes. Tying the flagship quiz to Cameroon's national youth holiday let it back its CSR commitment with an educational format for young people, and the same push doubled as a way to lift engagement among its own staff.
Solution
Players open the Big Gum quiz online, work through a run of general-knowledge questions, and land on a live leaderboard; each day's top scorers win cash, educational trading cards or a polo shirt, and the 20 best performers across the whole run advance to an in-person grand final where three laptops are raffled off. Shoppers who pick up a limited-edition Valentine's Day box of Mambo chocolate find a QR code on the packaging, scan it with their phone, and swipe a finger across the screen to scratch off a digital card — instantly finding out whether they've won a dinner, cinema tickets, a picnic basket or a small keepsake. Chococam staff play their own invite-only version of the quiz, ranked on a separate leaderboard, with the top 45 employees taking home prizes. None of the three games require an app download — players reach them by tapping a link or scanning a QR code.
Results
Over 30,000 participations a month across the live activations, with the best-performing experience reaching a 90% engagement rate. The Big Gum quiz alone was played 11,320 times over the course of the campaign, including more than 1,500 plays on its single busiest day.
- 1
Big Gum's quiz opens in a mobile browser via a shared link, with no app install, timed to a national youth holiday; the landing screen promotes daily prize draws (cash, edutainment cards, polo shirts) as the reason to return each day.
- 2
Players work through a sequence of general-knowledge trivia questions, tapping one of the given answer options for each.
- 3
Each pick resolves instantly, the correct option highlighted green and a wrong pick red, and the player's score builds question by question until a final tally is shown at the end of the round.
- 4
Submitting the score requires filling in a contact-details form; without it the result does not count toward the prize draw.
- 5
Scores feed a shared leaderboard, with the top performers each day winning cash, edutainment cards, or polo shirts.
- 6
The end screen also prompts players to follow Big Gum's social accounts.
- 7
At the campaign's close, the top 20 leaderboard finishers are invited to a live offline grand final where three laptops are given away.
- 8
A separate Mambo activation runs off a limited-edition Valentine's chocolate box: scanning its printed QR code opens a digital scratch card that the player clears with a finger or cursor to reveal an instant result, winning a romantic prize such as a dinner, cinema tickets, a picnic basket, or a souvenir.
- 9
An internal version of the trivia quiz runs for Chococam employees, who see themselves on a staff leaderboard, with the top 45 winning prizes.
