Objective
Ahead of a rerun of Game of Thrones seasons 1–6 on Star World, Star India wanted to turn passive scrolling on its Facebook page into active engagement with the show. The tangled bloodlines and house rivalries that fans obsess over doubled as ready-made trivia, so the channel bet on that knowledge as the hook. Built with Newsfeed SmartApps, the campaign doubled as a live demo of playable posts that run natively in-feed, with no landing page, app install, or permissions prompt in the way.
Solution
The game appears as a normal post in the Star World India Facebook feed, sitting between friends' updates and other brand content. A player sees the bare skeleton of the Game of Thrones family tree alongside a set of ten character portraits, and has to drag each one onto its correct house and position in the tree. A clock starts the moment play begins, rewarding both accuracy and speed. Once all ten characters are placed, the player submits the finished tree on the spot, without ever leaving Facebook.
- 1
The player scrolls the Star World India Facebook page and encounters an interactive block that runs natively inside the feed, with no redirect to a website, no app install, and no permissions requested.
- 2
The post frames a challenge: test how well the player knows the houses and families of Game of Thrones by assembling the show's family tree.
- 3
An empty family-tree layout appears, showing house slots next to a set of character portraits.
- 4
The player drags each of ten character portraits onto its correct house and position within that family's branch of the tree.
- 5
The build is timed, so speed counts alongside accuracy across the whole assembly.
- 6
Submitting the finished tree returns the player's placement on a leaderboard ranked by completion time.
- 7
The ten fastest players with correct trees win official franchise merchandise.
- 8
Winners are contacted by private message and must reply with name, age, email, and phone number within 24 hours or forfeit the prize.
