- 1
Monopoly GO!, the mobile board game, runs a limited season called Monster Mash from September 23 to November 25, 2026, reskinning the board with Halloween imagery—monsters, pumpkins, ghosts, haunted houses—under a double license crossover with the Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters and the Ghostbusters franchise. The soundtrack adds real licensed songs, "Golden" and "How It's Done" by the film's group HUNTR/X.
- 2
Players pick a token to represent them on the board, choosing from the standard set plus several player-designed tokens that the Monopoly GO! Discord community voted into the game for the season.
- 3
A new sticker album, Mystery Mansion, offers 25 collectible sets—one devoted to KPop Demon Hunters and one to Ghostbusters—that players fill by opening packs and trading duplicates with friends, unlocking rewards as each set completes. One set, Community Gallery, and an accompanying Wishing Board feature costume designs and wishes submitted and voted on by players themselves.
- 4
Outside the collection systems, play follows the game's usual loop of rolling dice and moving around the board; landing on certain spaces or drawing certain cards launches one of the season's mini-game events, each reskinned in either the Ghostbusters or KPop Demon Hunters theme.
- 5
The Racers event is a race against other players for leaderboard position, staged either as a car chase across a Ghostbusters-themed rooftop while battling Gozer, or as a run through the streets of Seoul into the Underworld with HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys as the racers.
- 6
The Partners event has players recruit friends to jointly construct a themed attraction, with each participant's actions adding to shared progress—built from Ghostbusters characters and set pieces in one run, and from HUNTR/X landmarks, including the golden Honmoon, in the other.
- 7
In the Treasures event, players uncover hidden prizes by clearing cells from a grid—blasting through a slime-covered grid at a Ghostbusters firehouse with a proton blaster in one version, and searching a HUNTR/X concert stage in the other.
- 8
A dedicated storefront, Blocks Boutique, sells KPop Demon Hunters-themed merchandise and digital collectibles tied to the film.
- 9
Two lightweight new mechanics add friend-to-friend interaction: Fill Up Your Luck-O-Lantern has players gather candy while moving around the board and share the resulting reward with a chosen friend, while Trick-or-Treat Is Knocking pits two players in a dice roll-off where the higher roll wins a basket of candy.
- 10
A season-long raid, Trick or Treat, triggers when a player lands on a railroad space or draws a Chance card: it shows five friends' boards, each with a house hiding either a reward or a scare, and the player locks in a target by tapping a house, then rolls dice against that friend for the candy inside—a tie triggers a bonus for both, and an ambushing ghost can end the raid instantly while letting the player keep whatever was already won. Rewards collected this way feed into overall season progress and tournament standings, and players repeat the raid and board loop until the season ends on November 25.
Objective
Scopely used the Halloween window to keep Monopoly GO!'s huge player base engaged and spending, extending a run of high-profile crossovers (Star Wars, The Simpsons, Looney Tunes) with a double license tie-in. For Netflix and Ghostbusters, it put KPop Demon Hunters and the Ghostbusters IP in front of an audience of 10+ million daily players and gave HUNTR/X's songs "Golden" and "How It's Done" a new context to be heard in.
Solution
Players open their regular copy of Monopoly GO! to find the board, tokens and every recurring event reskinned for the season. Rolling into the Racers event drops them into a rooftop chase across 550 Central Park West and a hunt for ghost-hunting gear inside a firehouse, complete with a proton blaster. Switching to the KPop Demon Hunters track sends them running through Seoul and down into the Underworld, shopping at the Blocks Boutique, and hunting for treasure across a HUNTR/X concert stage. Two new head-to-head mechanics, Luck-O-Lantern and Trick-or-Treat, let friends compete or prank each other directly inside the game. Along the way, players pull stickers for the Mystery Mansion album, filling out sets tied to both franchises as they go.
Results
Monopoly GO! reaches more than 10 million players logging in daily, has passed 300 million downloads since launch, and is the fastest game on record to reach $6 billion in in-app purchase revenue, roughly three and a half years after its April 2023 launch.
