Objective

The Monaco government wanted business travelers on the direct Paris–Monaco train to feel the trip's environmental case, not just hear it — reinforcing the principality's CSR push while promoting Monaco as a destination and Grimaldi Forum's sustainability efforts.

Solution

Passengers scanned a QR code in their carriage and landed straight in a chain of mini-games about Monaco and Grimaldi Forum's environmental mission, no app required. Along the way they answered quiz questions, played short casual games carrying brand messages, and could enter a photo contest by submitting a picture from their trip. Screens of Monaco-focused content appeared between games to keep the story moving. A live leaderboard tracked scores throughout the roughly 6.5-hour ride, and an hour before arrival the top 10 players were awarded prizes.

Results

604 unique play sessions among train passengers, with a 91% engagement rate driven by the in-carriage QR code access.

How it plays

8 steps
  1. 1

Riders on the privatized Paris–Monaco train scan a QR code posted in the carriage, which opens a browser-based experience with no app download required.

  2. 2

The home screen shows a visual path of sequential steps; each step is a separate mini-game or content module that the player completes in order.

  3. 3

Between games, editorial screens deliver campaign messages about sustainable tourism, train travel versus flying, and Monaco's attractions.

  4. 4

Some steps are quiz games: players answer questions about Monaco and about the Grimaldi Forum's environmental mission, earning points for correct answers.

  5. 5

Other steps are branded casual arcade games that alternate with the quizzes, repeating the campaign message while holding attention.

  6. 6

After each step, the player returns to the path screen, which tracks progress and an aggregated score feeding a single leaderboard shared across the whole experience; players can replay steps to climb their rank.

  7. 7

One step is a media contest: the player photographs a moment from the trip that best captures their experience and submits it to the campaign.

  8. 8

An hour before the train reaches Monaco, the leaderboard closes and the top ten players receive prizes handed out on board.
