Objective

Red Bull France was building out its French rap franchise, the biweekly YouTube show "Rap Jeu," and wanted a way to keep that audience engaged between episodes. The game gave fans of francophone hip-hop a reason to test their knowledge, compete on a leaderboard, and argue about it online. Referencing everyone from 1990s pioneers like MC Solaar and NTM to newer names like PNL and Vald was a deliberate bet on cross-generational reach within the scene.

Solution

Players land on a single densely illustrated street scene and have to spot 66 French rappers and collectives hidden inside it — no names or labels, just clues: a punchline written on a wall, a prop from a video, an album cover folded into the background. Clicking the right detail scores points, with harder-to-spot artists worth more; three wrong guesses and the board resets, though there's no clock, so players can keep hunting as long as they like. Points unlock bonus mini-games that mirror challenges from the "Rap Jeu" show itself, plus quizzes and combo rounds, with scores feeding a live player leaderboard. The scene also hides a few unannounced easter eggs, and after launch the studio published a playlist revealing all 66 answers.

How it plays

7 steps
  1. 1

The game opens directly in the browser from a link on the Red Bull project page; nothing is downloaded or installed.

  2. 2

The player is presented with a single large illustration of a stylized city block, drawn in the visual codes of French rap, hiding 66 rappers and rap collectives. None of the artists are labeled — the player has to recognize each one from clues built into the scenery: a punchline on a wall, an object from the artist's universe, an album cover, a track title, a symbol.

  3. 3

Clicking the element where an artist is recognized correctly identifies that rapper and scores points, with harder-to-spot artists worth more than easy ones.

  4. 4

A wrong click costs one of three lives; losing all three sends the player back to the start. There is no timer, so the search runs at the player's own pace.

  5. 5

Earning enough points unlocks bonus mini-games modeled on the challenges from the Rap Jeu YouTube show, along with quizzes and combo challenges.

  6. 6

Beyond the 66 required references, the illustration hides extra, undeclared features and easter eggs for players to stumble on.

  7. 7

Scores feed a real-time leaderboard, letting players compare results and try to climb it; players can then check their finds against a published answer key, a curated listening list breaking down the hidden references.
