Objective

Gucci built the game to give the La Famiglia collection a life beyond the e-commerce grid, folding the launch into a wider push to turn its site from a store into an editorial, immersive space. A conversational whodunit was also a deliberate play for a younger global audience, following on from the brand's earlier "see now, buy now" digital release for Primavera.

Solution

The Contessa calls to invite the player to a party at her villa, where her jewels have just been stolen, casting them as the detective on the case. Moving through the villa, the player approaches each of nine guests — all drawn from the La Famiglia lookbook — and questions them by typing out their own questions rather than picking from scripted lines, since the suspects are powered by a conversational AI that answers in character. Each guest holds onto secrets, motives and contradictions, and their outfits double as clues, so the collection reveals itself through the interrogation rather than a lookbook scroll. The player cross-checks answers, chases down inconsistencies, gathers evidence, and must name the thief before the party ends.

How it plays

7 steps
  1. 1

The experience opens on a dedicated Gucci page with an embedded video, the entry point into the interactive story.

  2. 2

An urgent phone call from La Contessa kicks off the plot: jewels have been stolen at her villa party, and the player is cast as the detective who must find the thief before the evening ends.

  3. 3

The player moves through a navigable digital rendering of the villa, encountering nine members of the 'family,' each with their own secrets, motives, and inconsistent stories.

  4. 4

Approaching a suspect opens a free-text conversation: the player types their own questions to a conversational AI rather than picking from a scripted dialogue tree, and the character answers in character to whatever is asked.

  5. 5

Each character's collection outfit doubles as a clue, folded into the mystery as an identifying detail while also showcasing the look itself.

  6. 6

The player pieces together evidence gathered across conversations, cross-checking different guests' testimonies for contradictions.

  7. 7

Before the party ends, the player names the thief, and the ending reflects the deductions they made along the way.
