Objective
adidas wanted to reach Minecraft's audience — over 300 million copies sold and 200 million monthly players, roughly a fifth of them under 15 — at the exact moment public attention peaked around the theatrical release of A Minecraft Movie. The partnership was built to run for years across gaming, sport and culture, so adidas needed a presence inside the game itself, not just merchandise on a shelf tied to it.
Solution
Players download the adidas Adventurers add-on free from the Minecraft Marketplace and apply it to a survival world, where they spawn holding a blue adidas guidebook next to one of three companions: the Coach, the Teammate or the Mascot. Tapping the companion opens a nine-option radial menu that puts it to work — pointing out ore, locating structures, fetching items, marking home, recalling a death point, or fighting alongside the player. The Coach also tracks quest progress against ordinary play, like distance covered or mobs defeated, and each milestone pays out a Blue or Gold adidas Lootbox. Gold boxes unlock three-stripe armour with real in-game powers — a super jump, water breathing, lava walking, an XP boost — while other rewards are wearable adidas apparel that mirrors the real tracksuits, sneakers and accessories sold at adidas.com/minecraft.
- 1
Players find adidas Adventurers as a free add-on on the Minecraft Marketplace (Bedrock Edition, 1.16.0+) and download it with no purchase required. Applying it to a world spawns the player with a blue adidas Adventurers guidebook already in their inventory and an adidas companion NPC standing beside them.
- 2
The guidebook explains the add-on's items, armour sets and the commands for directing the companion. The companion follows the player automatically, glows at night to double as a light source, and periodically changes its appearance.
- 3
Interacting with the companion opens a menu of nine commands covering utility, combat support, navigation and quest tracking.
- 4
Through this menu the player can have ore highlighted through stone or teleported straight to them, get pointed toward nearby generated structures, pin and teleport back to a home base, and send the companion off to gather crops and items or auto-farm while they keep exploring.
- 5
In combat the companion acts on its own, charging creepers that approach the player and summoning alternate character variants to fight alongside them.
- 6
Keeping a companion grants a standing passive buff — extra damage or Haste, no hunger drain, lava protection, and an Elytra jump boost.
- 7
Death Recall marks the location of the player's last death, guiding the return trip to recover lost gear.
- 8
The Quest List tracks milestones tied to ordinary play, such as distance travelled and mobs defeated; clearing one drops an adidas Lootbox, with Blue boxes yielding standard Minecraft items and Gold boxes yielding exclusive three-stripe adidas armour that adds mob tracking, lava walking, faster XP gain, super jump, water breathing and damage reflection.
- 9
Outside of quest rewards, players can dress their character in adidas cosmetics — jackets, pants, leggings, a bucket hat, a snapback, a swim cap, slides and sneakers in various colourways and prints.
- 10
The in-game wardrobe mirrors a real apparel line sold at adidas.com/minecraft — T-shirts, shorts, tracksuits and sneakers for kids and teens inspired by Minecraft mobs, released alongside the add-on.
