Objective
Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines wanted to mark the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games on its own turf and use the moment to pass on sport's values — teamwork, respect, perseverance — to its youngest residents. Building the game world out of real local landmarks was also a way to strengthen kids' sense of belonging to their home area, and to give schools and families a ready-made teaching tool.
Solution
Players open a browser link and step straight into a 3D miniature of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, no install required, playing solo or with friends. Moving through the streets as a third-person character, they talk to athletes they meet along the way, gather clues and solve puzzles to track down the code that unlocks a chest holding the Olympic flame. Core quests carry lessons on health and conduct, while optional side quests are just for fun; clearing a main quest unlocks a sport-themed mini-episode, like a mountain-bike race or an equestrian trial. Between chapters, players watch short video segments in which five local elite athletes talk about their own journeys. A session runs 30 minutes to an hour, difficulty scales to the player's age, and solving the mystery entered SQY residents into a draw for Olympic tickets.
- 1
The player opens destination-champion.sqy.fr directly in a browser, free and with nothing to install, and can register or play anonymously, alone or in a group, for a 30–60 minute session; the game asks the player's age (6–15) and adjusts its difficulty and tone accordingly.
- 2
The setup: the Olympic flame is locked in a chest whose code has been lost, and without it the opening ceremony cannot happen, so the player's task is to find that code.
- 3
The player explores a 3D miniature reconstruction of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines built from real locations across the area, searching for clues scattered through the territory and teaming up with athlete characters encountered along the way to progress.
- 4
The core loop pairs mandatory story quests with side content: each main-quest stage delivers an educational segment on behavior, health, or sporting values, and completing it unlocks a game episode such as a mountain-bike race or an equestrian challenge, while optional side quests offer lighter play with no educational requirement.
- 5
Along the way the player can unlock video capsules in which five local high-level athletes talk to camera about their personal journeys.
- 6
Having gathered enough clues, the player enters the code to open the chest and release the Olympic flame, closing out the quest.
- 7
Local Saint-Quentin residents who solve the puzzle are invited to enter a draw for tickets to the 2024 Games.
- 8
Teachers and parents can also download a companion pedagogical kit from the platform, covering the sporting and moral values the game conveys.
