Objective
Paramount built the site to stoke anticipation for the Scream relaunch ahead of its January 14, 2022 theatrical release, aiming to keep longtime franchise fans engaged while pulling in viewers who'd never met Ghostface before. Instead of running conventional ads, the studio invited people to step into the story itself — into Stu Macher's house, the franchise's most recognizable setting — and face down Ghostface's own game. The experience was also built to travel: every playthrough ended in a personal, shareable result.
Solution
Players open the game straight from a browser link, no install needed, on desktop or mobile. They move through a live-shot 360° panorama of the house, clicking between rooms and looking around as they go. A phone overlay starts texting them — first as Sidney Prescott, then revealed as Ghostface, who challenges them to a trivia game built on the franchise's lore. From there it's a choice: race the clock answering questions about the Scream films to survive longer, or ignore the calls entirely and just explore the house, stumbling on hidden easter eggs along the way. Every run ends the same way — death — but never the same death twice, and the game clocks how long the player lasted before handing them a shareable card showing exactly how they were killed and how long they survived.
- 1
The game opens directly in a web browser, on desktop or mobile, with no install required.
- 2
It begins at the front door of Stu Macher's house from the original Scream, its stained-glass panel hinting at Ghostface's face; the player enters as if invited by Sydney Prescott, who starts texting over a phone graphic overlaid on the screen.
- 3
Players move from room to room by clicking, looking around each space in 360° the way a panoramic map tour works.
- 4
While exploring, franchise characters keep texting the player, discussing Ghostface's return and Sydney's disappearance.
- 5
The story turns when "Sydney" is revealed to be Ghostface, who challenges the player to a game; from there, players choose to either take on the quiz or ignore the texts and keep exploring on their own.
- 6
Accepting the challenge brings timed, multiple-choice trivia questions about the Scream films, ranging from easy to obscure, interspersed with continued movement through the rooms — some revisited — where franchise easter eggs are hidden.
- 7
The game always ends with Ghostface killing the player regardless of quiz performance, through one of several different death scenes, while a running clock tracks survival time and displays it as the result.
- 8
The session closes with a shareable social image showing how the player died and how long they survived, meant for posting and comparing scores with friends.
