Objective

DigiCert needed to launch its first World Quantum Readiness Day — a B2B webinar on post-quantum cryptography — as an authoritative but engaging event for a niche technical audience, rejecting the usual slide-deck format. The brand also wanted to build a database of qualified, "quantum-curious" leads and send registered attendees away eager for next year's event.

Solution

Instead of a pre-event lead magnet, the crossword ran inside the webinar itself, opened on a phone, tablet, or laptop with no app to install. Players filled in a grid where every answer is a quantum-computing or cybersecurity term, using the clues as a glossary while they worked. Finishing the puzzle unlocked a lead-capture form and entry into a drawing for an escape-room board game, and completing the crossword doubled as a filter — only genuinely engaged, relevant attendees made it to the end.

Results

The crossword drove over 5,000 interactions and collected 488 qualified leads, with an average session length of close to 2 minutes per player.

How it plays

7 steps
  1. 1

A webinar attendee for DigiCert's World Quantum Readiness Day opens the game from a link before the main talks begin, playable on phone, tablet, or computer with no install.

  2. 2

The screen shows a branded crossword: a grid and a clue list where every clue and every answer is a term from quantum computing and cybersecurity.

  3. 3

The player reads a clue and types the answer, using a touchscreen or a keyboard, confirming each entry with Enter; a lightbulb icon offers a hint when a word won't come.

  4. 4

The goal is to fill in as many words as possible with as few mistakes as possible; the game scores accuracy and displays progress across the grid.

  5. 5

By solving the terms, the player works through the event's glossary, meeting the webinar's key vocabulary before the talks cover it.

  6. 6

Finishing the crossword leads to a lead-capture form, which attendees fill out more readily because the game framed it as a mental challenge rather than a pitch.

  7. 7

Completing the puzzle also enters the player into a prize draw for an escape-room board game.
