Objective

Renault was launching the redesigned Twingo, whose main selling point was exterior personalization and city-friendly handling. Rather than run a standard online configurator, the brand wanted to turn that pitch into a hands-on experience — letting people build their own car and then feel it drive, instead of just watching an ad.

Solution

The player opens a 3D showroom in the browser and builds their own Twingo: picking a body color, adding graphic decals to the exterior, choosing an interior trim and wheels, spinning the finished car 360° to check every detail. Once it's built, that exact car drops into two driving challenges — one where the player steers it down a road dodging obstacles, another where they draw a path with a finger or cursor and watch the Twingo follow it in real time. The session ends with an option to share the personalized car and its run on social media. It all runs straight in the browser, no download, on desktop, tablet, or phone.

Results

Average session length was over 3 minutes.

How it plays

7 steps
  1. 1

The player lands on a standalone Renault microsite that frames the experience as three stages: design a Twingo, try it out, and share it.

  2. 2

A real-time 3D scene shows the car in front of the player, who can rotate it a full 360 degrees to inspect it from any angle.

  3. 3

The player builds their own Twingo inside this same 3D configurator: picking a body color, adding decorative stripping panels to the bodywork, choosing wheel rims, and setting the interior trim, with the option to zoom in on any part being customized.

  4. 4

Once the build is finished, the player moves from the configurator into a virtual test drive, taking their personalized car with them.

  5. 5

In the first driving mini-game, the player steers the Twingo down a track and swerves around alternating obstacles, a test of the car's maneuverability.

  6. 6

In the second mini-game, the player draws a path with their finger or cursor and watches the car follow that hand-drawn line in real time.

  7. 7

The player can share their finished car configuration through connected social channels.
