Objective
Águila has sponsored Barranquilla's Carnival for years, and COVID-19 cancelled the 2021 street parades outright — taking away the brand's biggest seasonal platform and the city's most-loved tradition in one stroke. The brand needed a way to keep Águila present in carnival season and let people experience the parade from home instead of losing the ritual entirely.
Solution
Open a truck-driving simulator and the highway is gone — in its place is Vía 40, the real route of Barranquilla's Batalla de Flores parade, and the rigs in the driver's seat are swapped for 15 carnival floats modeled on designs by official float artist Hernando Arteta. On February 22, 2021, players watched (and drove) a live parade down that virtual route, streamed on Águila's and Carnaval de Barranquilla's own channels with experienced sim racers behind the wheel. Anyone could then download the float pack themselves, drop it into their own copy of American Truck Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator 2, and drive the Batalla de Flores floats down any map in the game on their own terms — no scheduled event required.
- 1
The experience opens as a livestream on the Águila and Carnaval de Barranquilla social channels, timed to the date of the cancelled parade: instead of footage of a real street, viewers see the world of a truck-driving simulator.
- 2
On screen, a convoy of 15 carnival floats — 3D models of actual Batalla de Flores carrozas, driven by invited players — parades down a recreation of Vía 40, the real route of the parade.
- 3
To join in, a player downloads a free mod pack of the floats and installs it into their own copy of American Truck Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator 2, then enables it from the game's mod manager before loading a profile.
- 4
In-game, the player swaps their usual truck for one of the decorated Águila carnival floats.
- 5
The player then drives the float across any in-game map, American or European, running their own version of the parade and keeping the carnival going through the simulator community.
