Objective

Ray-Ban wanted to reach its audience where they already were on Facebook and turn its brand pitch of individuality over conformity into something people would actually play and pass on. The dare was framed as rescuing friends from the clutches of mediocrity, giving the personality message a concrete, shareable action.

Solution

You land on the page and connect Facebook, and suddenly it's your actual friends trapped inside a satire of office life — filing-cabinet monsters, photocopier spaceships, laser-shooting middle managers. You jump, slide and dash through each level, grabbing Ray-Ban-branded pickups that pry captured friends loose from tight spots and get you past electrified traps and mines. A boss fight caps off every level before you move to the next, and there's a customization screen to dress up your character along the way. Free every friend on a level and you earn three stars, which you can then post straight to Twitter or other social feeds.

How it plays

9 steps
  1. 1

The game opens on a premise screen: Dr Compliance has kidnapped the player's Facebook friends, and the player must prove they have the skills to rescue them.

  2. 2

The player connects a Facebook account, which personalizes the game by populating it with their real friends as the characters to be rescued.

  3. 3

Before each run, the player customizes their character on a setup screen.

  4. 4

The core mechanic is a mobile platformer run: the player jumps, slides, flies, and crashes through obstacles as the required move changes from section to section.

  5. 5

The level is set in an office-satire world where the player dodges hazards like flying photocopiers, monstrous filing cabinets, and laser-shooting line managers.

  6. 6

Scattered through the level are the player's kidnapped Facebook friends to free, along with pick-ups modeled on Ray-Ban products that help reach friends stuck in hard-to-get spots and get past mazes of electricity and mines.

  7. 7

Each level ends in a boss fight; beating the boss opens the way to the next level, while failing sends the player to a lose screen with the option to retry.

  8. 8

A results screen rates the run in stars, awarding three stars for rescuing every one of the player's friends.

  9. 9

The player can tweet or share their result, and the friends they rescued see themselves appear in the game.
