Google: AI Quests
Open the game

Objective
Google partnered with Stanford University to introduce middle school students (ages 11-14) to artificial intelligence and foster responsible AI literacy through interactive, gamified learning experiences. The initiative addresses the need to build AI understanding in young people as they enter a technology-driven world, with focus on how AI tackles real-world challenges in climate, health, and scientific research.
Solution
AI Quests is a web-based adventure game where students take on researcher roles to solve real-world problems through AI. Three main quests are available: Flood Prediction (live), and coming soon Diabetic Retinopathy Detection and Brain Mapping. Gameplay involves collecting data sources, assessing data quality, building and testing AI models, and making decisions about data inclusion and model deployment. An in-game mentor, Professor Skye, guides learners through the experience. The platform includes complete lesson plans, teacher guides, and recorded messages from actual Google researchers discussing responsible AI implementation. The game is free for classroom use and was playtested with middle schoolers.
