Objective

Comcast Business sells networking and cybersecurity to enterprise clients but was losing ground in perception to Verizon and AT&T — CIOs, per the campaign's own case study, saw the brand as unremarkable utility infrastructure. Sponsoring THE PLAYERS Championship put it in front of the IT-decision-maker audience that watches golf, and the brand wanted to prove its network, real-time data and IoT/ML capabilities in action rather than just show a logo courtside — repositioning both itself and golf as modern.

Solution

At TPC Sawgrass's famous par-3 17th, the Island Green, spectators pull up a page on their phone browser — no app to install — and see a live map of the hole, water and rough included. Before each tee shot, they predict where the ball will land — on the green, in the water, in the rough, or close to the pin — guided by odds calculated from 20 years of PGA TOUR history and that day's course conditions. They watch the shot from the stands, and seconds later the app reveals the actual landing spot and whether their call was right. Points accumulate toward a leaderboard, with daily prizes and a grand-prize trip to TPC Sawgrass, and spectators can keep playing across all six days of the tournament.

Results

7,200+ predictions submitted, 128+ hours of total gameplay, and a 16+ minute average session; the campaign drove 69,000,000+ earned-media impressions, a 5x traffic lift to ComcastBusiness.com, and 3.2x year-over-year growth in enterprise site leads.

How it plays

7 steps
  1. 1

The player opens Game the Green in a phone browser at THE PLAYERS Championship 2025 — a web app requiring no install, built exclusively for attendees of the tournament.

  2. 2

The screen shows a topographic visualization of TPC Sawgrass's 17th hole, the island green, synced to what the player sees live from the stands.

  3. 3

Before each golfer's shot, the player locks in a prediction of where the ball will end up, choosing among landing on the green, in the water, in the rough, or tight against the pin.

  4. 4

A prediction hint from a machine-learning model trained on 20 years of PGA TOUR data is available to inform the guess.

  5. 5

As the shot plays out live, the app tracks the ball's actual landing spot using tournament broadcast data — Doppler radar tracing and high-speed cameras — and resolves the prediction almost instantly, awarding points for a correct call.

  6. 6

Points accumulate into a running score, placing the player on an in-game leaderboard against other spectators at the event.

  7. 7

The game runs fresh each day of the tournament (March 11-16), with daily prizes for that day's predictions and season-long golf prizes — including rounds at TPC Sawgrass and a grand-prize all-inclusive trip there — going to top overall scorers.
