Objective
VeeCon 2023 tickets minted as NFTs, and until the event the reveal art stayed hidden — leaving holders staring at a blank token for weeks. VeeFriends wanted a reason to keep them checking back, so it gave the placeholder ticket a job to do: a game they could play and compete at while they waited.
Solution
Holders open their VeeCon 2023 ticket on OpenSea — or the standalone site — and the token's still-unrevealed artwork turns into a playable arcade screen. Using on-screen buttons, WASD or arrow keys, the player steers Viper the snake around a neon board, picking up VeeCon-themed icons like a battery, microphone, headphones, heart, lightning bolt and phone. Yellow items are worth one point each; collect five and a green item appears, worth two, three or five points depending on the level reached. Gather enough to trigger the VeeCon logo, and the board resets one level harder for another run. Each score posts to a leaderboard, where ticket holders keep coming back to beat each other.
- 1
Holders of a VeeCon 2023 Tickets NFT open their pre-reveal ticket card on OpenSea to find the game running in place of the still-hidden ticket art; the same game is also playable full-screen at a dedicated VeeFriends website.
- 2
A neon, cyan-and-magenta title screen branded "VEECON VIPER" greets the player and launches into a match.
- 3
Before play begins, the player picks a control scheme suited to the device: on-screen directional buttons for touch, or WASD/arrow keys for keyboard.
- 4
The core loop is classic snake: the player steers the Viper character around a field cluttered with obstacles, avoiding collisions as the snake moves.
- 5
Scattered across the field are VeeCon-themed icons — a battery, microphone, headphones, heart, lightning bolt, phone — which the snake eats by moving onto them; each yellow item adds one point to a steadily climbing score.
- 6
After five yellow items are collected, a green item appears, worth more points (2, 3, or 5 depending on the current level) and prompting the player to risk a longer reach to grab it.
- 7
Collecting enough items spawns the VeeCon logo, which advances the player to the next level; each new level tightens the field, raises the value of green items, and works against an ever-lengthening snake.
- 8
Players check their final score against a leaderboard, competing with other ticket holders for the top spots.
