Objective
LEGO wanted a permanent, free foothold inside Fortnite rather than a one-off campaign, meeting kids and families in a space they already spend time in. Bringing classic LEGO themes like Pirates into playable mechanics let the brand extend December 2023's LEGO Fortnite survival mode with age-appropriate, parent-controlled experiences. It also set up a platform move revealed at GDC in March 2024: opening LEGO's assets to Fortnite's UEFN creator community to put the brand in creators' hands.
Solution
Players open either island free through Fortnite's Discover tab or by punching in an island code, with no separate download, and their Fortnite skin automatically turns into a LEGO minifigure. In LEGO Raft Survival, up to four players paddle out and race to gather wood and treasure from floating chests, expanding their raft while the pirate Blackbeard's ship, the Barracuda, fires cannons at them. In LEGO Obby Fun, up to ten players run and jump across more than 300 brick platforms designed by LEGO's own level designers, dropped in at a random spawn point with the layout scrambled each time. A round ends when the raft goes under (or holds), or when a runner reaches the final platform, and players can immediately queue up for another go.
Results
Since LEGO Fortnite's late-2023 debut, the franchise — including the LEGO Islands strand these two games belong to — has engaged more than 87 million players. LEGO Group's 2024 annual results credited in-game experiences like LEGO Islands as part of what drove the year's 13% revenue growth to DKK 74.3 billion.

Players find the islands through Fortnite's Discover search by browsing a LEGO shelf or publisher name, or by entering a 12-digit island code directly. Before launching, they choose a public or private session; the experience is free, requires no separate download, and carries a 10+ age rating with parental controls active.

On load, any Fortnite skin with a LEGO style automatically converts into a LEGO minifigure, so the player's Battle Royale character enters the LEGO world in brick form.

In LEGO Raft Survival, the player spawns on a small raft in open water, playing solo or with up to three teammates. The round begins when the player approaches a pirate captain near a ship and presses the green Play button.

The core loop is a repair race: Blackbeard's ship bombards the raft with cannonballs that blow out sections, while players search chests on the raft and drifting nearby for wood, treasure, and pre-built sections. Collected materials patch damage and extend the raft, and teams typically split roles between collecting and repairing to keep up with the damage.

Progress is scored through coins, earned for surviving the bombardment and for each raft section completed.

In LEGO Obby Fun, the player spawns on a platform high in the sky, with the spawn point and course layout randomized each run; it can be played solo or with others. The core loop is an obstacle course: jumping from platform to platform without falling, with jumps growing harder and platforms becoming mobile further along the track.

The course runs through sections themed to LEGO product lines — Friends, City, NINJAGO, and DREAMZzz — designed by LEGO's own teams and dressed with themed props.

Falling respawns the player at the last checkpoint rather than the start, and a fall counter tracks mistakes for in-session comparison. From platform 40 onward, each checkpoint offers a rift back to the start zone, but quitting the session resets all progress.

The full track spans more than 300 platforms, with up to 10 players racing simultaneously to get further and cleaner than one another.
