Objective

Mora wanted its winter Viandel and Spicy Viandel promotion to be more than another discount push — a playful, memorable moment built around the ritual of a frituur visit. Tying the game to a specific product gave shoppers a reason to buy again, since a fresh code only came with a fresh order, and a monthly prize kept the competition honest.

Solution

A flyer handed out with every Mora Viandel or Spicy Viandel order carries a unique QR code that opens straight into a browser game — no app, no download. Players take on the role of a frituur worker, sliding a basket left and right to catch snacks as they fall from the top of the screen. Miss three and the round is over, sending that score straight to a public leaderboard under the player's own nickname. Each code is good for one attempt, so beating a friend's score — or chasing that month's Nintendo Switch 2 — means heading back to the counter for another Viandel.

Results

In its first six weeks online, the game drew more than 6,500 players and over 7,000 QR-code scans, with the leading score reaching 9,351 points.

How it plays

8 steps
  1. 1

The promotion runs through participating frituurs in Belgium: a customer who orders a Mora Viandel® or Mora Spicy Viandel® receives a paper flyer printed with a unique QR code tied to a single-use token.

  2. 2

Scanning the QR code opens the game directly in the phone's browser, with no app to download or install.

  3. 3

The game is a pixel-art arcade scene set in a frituur, styled in Mora's colors; the player takes the role of a fry cook and moves a frying basket left and right to catch snacks falling from the top of the screen, scoring a point per catch.

  4. 4

A round ends once three snacks have fallen past the basket uncaught, keeping each session short enough to finish while an order is being prepared.

  5. 5

After the round, the player enters a nickname to submit the score to a public leaderboard; the system filters out profane or disguised-profane entries.

  6. 6

The submitted score appears on a shared leaderboard alongside other players' nicknames and scores, showing how it compares to the current monthly leader.

  7. 7

Each QR token grants exactly one scored attempt, with no shared codes or free retries; another attempt requires buying another Mora (Spicy) Viandel® to get a new flyer.

  8. 8

The promotion runs for three months (December, January, February); at the end of each month, the player holding that month's top score wins a Nintendo Switch 2, for three winners total.
