Objective

Tinder sought to re-engage Gen Z users fatigued by repetitive swiping and create deeper connections based on shared values. The brand needed to make the platform feel more alive and alive while giving users agency through meaningful choices that could influence their potential matches.

Solution

Swipe Night was a pioneering interactive video series—the first video content integrated directly into the Tinder app. Users experienced a first-person, apocalyptic adventure where they faced moral dilemmas (e.g., rescue a person or a dog) with only 7 seconds to decide. Their choices were irreversible and stored as 'decision badges' on their profiles, visible to potential matches. The system then matched users based on compatible or complementary choices, turning abstract decisions into conversation starters. Four episodes aired on consecutive Sundays (18:00–00:00 US time) in vertical video format. Directed by Karena Evans, produced by m ss ng p eces and MPC.

Results

Tinder's Swipe Night campaign engaged 15 million users and generated 4 billion earned impressions with 1.5 million weekly viewers, exceeding SNL audiences. Match rates increased by 26% on Sundays, and the project achieved 6th place in World Creative Rankings. The campaign won the Grand Prix for Innovation in Branded Content at Cannes Lions.
