Objective
Google Chrome needed to reimagine the Chrome Developer Summit for 2021, transforming a physical in-person conference into a safe, engaging digital experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective was to enable developers worldwide to participate, network, and access product demonstrations from home through an immersive virtual environment.
Solution
Set Snail developed a multiplayer RPG-inspired web world where attendees created custom characters and explored a shared virtual space. The experience featured interactive mini-games (miniature golf, fishing), real-time chat and emoji communication for networking, product demonstrations integrated into environmental experiences, and a virtual swag unlocking system. Built with WebGL graphics, React framework, and Socket.io WebSockets for multiplayer synchronization, it enabled simultaneous participation from hundreds of developers in a cohesive digital world.
