Objective
The Swedish Armed Forces needed to attract specialist officer candidates with strong cognitive and collaborative abilities. The 2009 Aspirant campaign used gamification to assess practical intelligence, multitasking capability, and team coordination skills—essential traits for officer roles. By framing recruitment as an entertaining challenge rather than traditional military messaging, the campaign aimed to engage younger talent pools who valued problem-solving over brute force.
Solution
A multiplayer browser-based puzzle game at aspirant.nu where four players form a temporary team to solve a series of logic and problem-solving challenges. The core mechanic tied individual performance to group survival: when one player failed or succeeded on a puzzle, the entire team faced penalties or rewards respectively. Upon completion, players received performance ratings in multitasking and concentration, scored against all other team results. The experience was developed by Dinahmoe (audio), ACNE Production, and DDB Stockholm.
