Objective
Spotify wanted a permanent, owned space on Roblox to meet Gen Z and Gen Alpha where they were already playing, becoming the first music-streaming brand to build its own destination on the platform. The goal was to turn passive listening into a shared hangout for fans and artists, while opening a new promotional and commercial channel — Spotify committed that its cut of virtual merch revenue on the island goes directly to the featured artists. It also doubled as a showcase for Spotify's own creation tool, Soundtrap, to a young audience.
Solution
Players land on a tropical Spotify-branded island where getting around is itself the game: running, jumping and climbing across platforms in a parkour course rather than just walking. Along the way they collect hearts and notes that double as currency and quest progress, pushing them up a leaderboard called The Charts. At Soundtrap-powered beat-maker stations scattered through the world, players can lay down their own tracks on the spot. Portals lead out to genre worlds added over time — K-Park for K-pop, with artist islands for SUNMI and Stray Kids, and the low-gravity Planet Hip-Hop, home to Doechii's swamp kingdom — each with its own quests, exclusive virtual merch, emotes and parkour moves to unlock. A later expansion added a full music-production hub, a surfing rhythm minigame called Soundwaves, and collectible instrument-shaped pets to track down.
Results
The Roblox experience has logged 43.3M+ total visits (36.7M+ unique visitors, per the developer) and 199,253 favorites, with a peak of 8,847 concurrent players reached on launch day, May 3, 2022.
- 1
The player opens Roblox, searches for Spotify Island (or goes to Roblox.com/spotify), and joins the free experience.

- 2
Players spawn on a colourful tropical island with Spotify's curated soundtrack playing in the background, which can be paused from the interface. Movement is built around parkour — running, jumping and climbing between platforms and floating islands — and many objects on the map are interactive, producing sounds when touched or jumped on, so exploring the island doubles as making music.

- 3
The core loop is collection: players gather scattered heart 'Like' icons, the island's currency and a gate to further areas, alongside a hidden hunt for 20 music notes and a challenge to jump on 13 different mushrooms. Completing these side quests earns a badge, a backpack item and an emote.
- 4
Points earned push the player up 'The Charts', an in-experience leaderboard that encourages continued exploring and repeat visits.
- 5
At beat-maker stations powered by Soundtrap, players step up to compose their own sounds and loops, with the stations working better when more players gather around them.

- 6
Hearts are spent at a virtual merch shop on exclusive clothing, emotes and parkour effects; players can also redeem promo codes Spotify publishes at milestones for instant heart top-ups.
- 7
A portal leads to K-Park, a K-pop destination with its own café serving Korean treats, Artist Islands featuring stars like SUNMI and Stray Kids with signed merch, a lounge for making K-pop beats on Soundtrap gear, and mini-quests that unlock exclusive items, emotes and parkour effects at a dedicated shop.
- 8
A second portal opens Planet Hip-Hop, a low-gravity cityscape on an upside-down silver pyramid ringed by planetary rings; players customise and drive cars around the rings at the Speed Shop, dance on a floating dance floor, make hip-hop beats on Soundtrap gear, and buy planet-specific merch with hearts.
- 9
An underground portal drops players into Doechii's swamp kingdom, where they swim with alligators, dive underwater and hop across lily pads; a persuasion quiz grows the avatar an alligator tail, and a timed scavenger hunt for alligator tokens within 72 hours unlocks exclusive space glasses.
- 10
The experience has expanded with additional modes: Speed Levels, a 42-course parkour gauntlet; collectible music pets earned through challenges; Soundsphere, a hub of interactive beatmakers and instruments; a Dashboard where players mix a finished track and perform it on stage; and Soundwaves, a rhythm-surfing minigame with customisable boards and hidden Easter eggs.
