Objective

QNX, a provider of real-time operating systems and embedded software solutions, launched an interactive marketing campaign to drive awareness and adoption of Foundry27, its exclusive developer community portal. The brand sought to demonstrate that engaging developers requires interactive experiences rather than traditional advertising, building a technical community around its platform through entertainment.

Solution

Pocket Geek is a Flash-based management simulation game developed by Fuel Industries where players oversee a virtual programmer attempting to complete a major project over five days. Gameplay revolves around maintaining the character's productivity and morale by strategically providing combinations of entertainment, food, drinks, and toys while monitoring status indicators. The game ran as a monthly competition, rewarding top scorers with prizes including $1,000 cash packages, PlayStation 3 consoles, iPod Touch devices, Harman Kardon speakers, and ThinkGeek gift certificates.
