Objective
Nokia promoted its CK-20W multimedia car kit—a vehicle integration system designed to enhance in-car entertainment and connectivity—through an innovative interactive narrative campaign. The brand sought to demonstrate the kit's multimedia capabilities by embedding product discovery within entertainment content, making feature education an integral part of an engaging story rather than explicit advertising.
Solution
The Passenger was an interactive film-game hybrid that placed players in control of a video-driven journey through the streets of Paris. Using real footage filmed over three nights in actual Parisian locations, players navigated a modern noir mystery narrative—driving a mysterious character through the city to complete a series of missions. The campaign pioneered a technical innovation: a Flash-based engine that processed wide-angle panoramic video, allowing viewers to 'steer' laterally through video sequences, creating the immersive sensation of driving a real car. As players progressed through the story, they organically discovered and engaged with various functions of the CK-20W multimedia kit. The experience blurred the boundaries between film, interactive narrative, and interactive gaming, using real video rather than graphics to maintain authenticity and immersion.
