Objective

In summer 2016, KFC Ukraine partnered with Pepsi to turn counter service into a promotional game, rewarding sharp players with a code redeemable for a free treat at KFC restaurants. The tie-in gave people a concrete reason to walk into a location to claim their prize, while built-in score-sharing to Facebook and VKontakte carried the campaign beyond the people who actually played.

Solution

On the promo site, Colonel Sanders calls out from the screen asking for help and inviting the player to start the game. From there it's a fast order-filling challenge: tickets for menu items like Sanders, Longer Cheese, and Strips come in one after another, and the player has to grab the right pieces from the fridge, the display case, and the register before running out of time, with the Colonel's tips popping up along the way. A score counter, a three-strike error tally, a rank, and a filling progress bar track how well the shift is going. Clear the bar and the game hands over a numeric code, which can be redeemed for a treat in a KFC restaurant or sent by SMS to a Ukrainian phone number. Attempts are unlimited, and afterward the player can check a leaderboard of top scores or share their own result to Facebook and VKontakte.

How it plays

8 steps
  1. 1

The game opens on a KFC-branded promo site where Colonel Sanders appears on a screen and asks the player for help handling orders, promising a tasty reward for good work. The player starts by clicking a large "start" button, with an optional account login that ties results to the leaderboard.

  2. 2

A rules panel explains the promo: unlimited attempts, instant redeemable treat codes, and top-ranked players winning free restaurant visits for six months, all within a fixed campaign window. A prize carousel showcases the rewards (a burger, a wings bucket, a Pepsi cup), alongside links to winners, full rules, and the brand's social pages.

  3. 3

A short tutorial with pop-up tips from the Colonel introduces the scoring display and the progress bar the player must fill to earn a reward.

  4. 4

The core loop is a counter-service simulation: orders for menu items appear as cards above the register, and the player fulfills them at a KFC-branded counter, with completed orders marked by a checkmark.

  5. 5

Mistakes are penalized through a limited error tally, capping the player at three wrong actions before consequences kick in.

  6. 6

Successful orders raise a running point total and an on-screen rank, while a separate progress bar fills toward a bucket icon marking the reward threshold.

  7. 7

Reaching the goal ends the session with a win screen displaying a redemption code, which the player can text to their phone via an SMS field to claim a free treat in-restaurant.

  8. 8

From the win screen, the player is invited to keep playing toward bigger leaderboard prizes and to share their score on social media; standings and full terms remain visible in dedicated sections, and replays are unlimited.
