Objective
Sony Pictures Interactive built the game to promote the theatrical release of Roland Emmerich's "White House Down," giving audiences a way to step into the film's premise — a hijacked White House — in the weeks around its June 28, 2013 opening.
Solution
Playing on a tablet held upright, you take command of an assault squad and see Washington, D.C. broken into a map of districts still held by the enemy. Tapping into a district sends your team in to scout it first, then hack and storm it to clear it out. You work outward district by district, each cleared zone opening the next, until the final push retakes the White House itself and closes the campaign.
- 1
The game opens with the premise that the White House has fallen to hostile forces, and the player takes command of an assault squad tasked with retaking it.
- 2
The player views Washington, D.C. as a map broken into individual districts, each of which must be retaken one at a time.
- 3
Within a district, the player chooses among three actions: scouting the area to see what is happening before acting, hacking to send the squad in covertly rather than through direct combat, or attacking to storm the district by force.
- 4
Clearing a district returns it to friendly control and opens the way to the next one; the campaign's goal is to push across the city and ultimately retake the White House.
- 5
The game runs in a tablet's browser and is built for portrait orientation, played holding the device upright.
