Objective

Vodafone Netherlands aimed to help children with stuttering improve speech fluency by leveraging the neurological phenomenon where stuttering often disappears during rap. The campaign sought to make speech therapy engaging and motivational by combining therapeutic exercises with rap music, connecting children with stuttering challenges to practice together and build confidence.

Solution

A free mobile app featuring Dutch rap artists transforming stutter-therapy exercises into rap songs. Users practiced tongue twisters and alliterations at varying paces while following along with professional rappers. The app was developed in collaboration with the Dutch Stutter Federation to ensure therapeutic validity. Available on iOS and Android via Google Play Store.

Results

Achieved 66% reach of the Dutch population. Approximately 2 out of 3 children with stuttering in the Netherlands used the app. Generated €5.3 million in earned media value. Adopted as official stutter therapy in the Netherlands. Major awards: 5 Cannes Lions (2017, including Bronze in Media and Promo & Activations); 8 Eurobest Awards including Gold in PR; 2 D&AD Wood Pencils (2018) for Use of Mobile and Branded Apps & Games; FWA Site of the Day; Grand Prix awards in Germany and UK.
