Objective
History Channel expanded its alternate-history TV special 'The Great Martian War' into mobile gaming to deepen fan engagement and leverage the franchise's popularity across digital platforms. The campaign served as an interactive extension of the broadcast content, combining the channel's appeal to speculative history audiences with interactive entertainment.
Solution
A freemium endless runner game developed by Secret Location, launching on iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire in December 2013. Players take on the role of Gus Lafonde, a military scout running through randomly-generated Martian battlefield environments inspired by World War I aesthetics. The game features 3D cinematic visuals, atmospheric sound design, and in-app purchase monetization. It was supported by History Channel Canada & UK with production involvement from Entertainment One and Shaw Media.
