Objective
Enexis operates the power grid but never talks to end customers directly, so it had no natural way to explain what a smart grid actually does. The game gave the utility a voice in that conversation, translating the abstract idea of balancing energy supply and demand into something a homeowner could grasp — and positioning Enexis as the company leading the shift to next-generation energy.
Solution
The player takes charge of a residential district's power network, placing homes and energy infrastructure across the neighborhood and deciding how it grows. Every choice feeds back into a single running readout: how closely the district's energy demand tracks its supply. Build and manage well, and the network stays balanced and "smart"; let demand and generation drift apart, and the score drops. The game keeps translating that one core tension — supply versus demand — into an immediate number, so the player is always working toward a tighter, higher-scoring balance rather than following a fixed level structure.
- 1
The player opens the game on an iPad and takes on the role of a grid manager tasked with mastering a residential energy network.
- 2
The core activity is placing and arranging buildings and infrastructure across a residential district, shaping it into a smart, sustainable neighborhood.
- 3
Each placement affects energy consumption and generation, so the player continually works to balance the district's power demand against its supply rather than simply expanding the district.
- 4
The game scores the session on how well the grid stays balanced, rewarding a tighter match between supply and demand with a higher final score.
