Objective
San Diego Zoo Safari Park built the game to promote the park itself — encouraging visits and building awareness of the animals and habitats found on-site. As an educational hook, it also gave kids and families a taste of what a day at the Safari Park, and its resident species, actually looks like.
Solution
The game opens with a simple pitch: see if you have what it takes to be a Safari Park ranger. Players pick a starting point and move through two park zones — a sun-baked savanna and the Gorilla Forest — clicking around each scene to spot animals and points of interest. Finding one triggers a discovery card, a short profile with facts about that species or the park itself, which gets added to the player's growing collection. There's no scoring or timer; a session just continues until the player has explored both zones and gathered as many discovery cards as they want, all playable free in-browser with no download or sign-up.
- 1
The game opens with a direct challenge: it asks whether the player has the skills to become a San Diego Zoo Safari Park ranger, and invites them to explore the park's animals and grounds.
- 2
As a ranger, the player moves through the sun-scorched savanna, the game's first area, observing the animals that live there.
- 3
Along the route, the player collects discovery cards bearing facts about the animals encountered and about Safari Park itself; each card gathered joins the player's growing collection.
- 4
The player then advances to Gorilla Forest, a second, wooded area of the park, continuing the same exploration-and-collection loop until the card collection is complete.
