Objective
PUMA wanted to capitalize on the 2012 Olympics moment to engage consumers with a memorable brand experience. However, strict Olympic sponsorship guidelines prohibited direct references to the Games or PUMA's Olympic athletes on their website. The challenge was to create an engaging interactive experience that celebrated athletic competition and speed while working within these constraints, reinforcing PUMA's sports brand positioning.
Solution
Viget developed an 8-bit style endless runner game using JavaScript and HTML5 Canvas technology. Players selected from PUMA athlete ambassadors representing five sports—running, football, cricket, golf, and motorsports—as part of the brand's evoSPEED campaign. The development emphasized careful gameplay tuning (jump height, running speed, collision detection, difficulty progression) and close designer-developer collaboration. The nostalgic visual aesthetic paired with modern web technologies created an accessible, cross-device compatible experience designed for repeat engagement and social sharing.
Results
The game achieved 120,000+ total plays, with an average session duration of 17 minutes and 6 seconds during the first five days post-launch, demonstrating impressive engagement metrics.
