Xfinity Mobile needed to land three plan messages — reliable coverage, flexible data, and savings — with Pinterest's largely female, mobile-first audience, a crowd that standard banner and video ads struggle to hold. The brand wanted a thumb-stopping format that would keep people engaged longer than a typical pin without ever pulling them off the platform.
Solution
Tapping the ad inside Pinterest's own in-app browser dropped the player straight into one of three space-themed mini-games, with no jump to an outside microsite. In Switch 'n Save, the player collects coins that stand in for money saved on the bill; in Got You Covered, they link up a signal across planets to represent network coverage; in Mix 'n Match, they scoop up data orbs that represent the freedom to change data allowances. Each round is short enough to finish in a few taps right inside the ad unit, with a rocket, galaxy, and aliens carrying the look across all three games. Anyone who wanted more than the ad-length teaser could keep playing in an extended mode, and the whole experience ran equally well in the Pinterest app and in mobile web.
