Objective

To celebrate the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games among young audiences in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines region. The Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines agglomeration (SQY) partnered with the French Ministry of National Education, Île-de-France Region, and the Family Allowances Fund to create an engaging educational experience that would transmit Olympic values—teamwork, respect, and perseverance—to children ahead of hosting Olympic sporting events on their territory.

Solution

Lost Mechanics developed Destination Champion as a free, browser-based serious game optimized for iPad. Players explore a 3D interactive recreation of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines on a quest to recover a stolen Olympic flame, engaging in sports-themed mini-games including golf, mountain biking, basketball, and obstacle course jumping. The game features AI-driven difficulty and dialogue adaptation based on each player's age (targeting ages 6–15), with primary and secondary quests that weave Olympic values into gameplay. Accessible at destination-champion.sqy.fr, the game launched in February 2024.

Destination Champion received CSS Design Awards Special Kudos 2024 on March 25, with a Judge's Score of 8.02/10, including a highest individual judge score of 9/10. The project also received an award from Cas d'OR du Numérique Territorial.
