Objective

Firefox, the only major browser not owned by a billionaire, launched this campaign to reinforce its "Open What You Want" positioning during its 21st anniversary. The objective was to make privacy and data ownership concerns entertaining and shareable for Gen Z audiences, highlighting Firefox's independence while building brand affinity through participatory, playful experiences.

Solution

A four-month, multi-tier activation combining digital and physical experiences. Users created custom billionaire avatars via an AI-powered Billionaire Builder tool on the campaign microsite (billionaireblastoff.firefox.com), competing to get their creations launched on an actual rocket. The campaign featured Data War, a custom 74-card physical game introduced at TwitchCon 2025 and later released as a browser-based game where players control billionaires siphoning resources from the public. Activations included an AR Holobox experience at TwitchCon for creating life-size avatars, social media sharing mechanics for seat allocation, and a livestreamed real rocket launch event with user-generated avatars aboard.

Results

30,000+ participants in physical and digital games; 3,600+ unique AI-generated billionaire characters created; 22,000 Data War expansion packs distributed at TwitchCon; 30+ press and influencer mentions.
