Objective

Mentos sought to restore cultural relevance among Gen Z audiences by reimagining a classic science experiment for the gaming era. The brand partnered with BBH London to transform the decades-old Mentos-and-cola phenomenon into an engaging branded entertainment experience within Fortnite, positioning the product as fun and explosive for a new generation.

Solution

The campaign created the Mentos Fizzooka, the first-ever branded Fortnite weapon—a custom rocket launcher modeled after a giant Mentos roll mounted on a cola bottle. The weapon was designed to destroy 'builds,' Fortnite's most debated gameplay mechanic. Over two weeks, Fizzookas were deployed across popular Fortnite Creative maps including Piece Control 2v2, Piece Control 1v1, Troll Bed Wars, and Sky Wars, each reaching over a million daily players. The rollout was amplified globally across 20+ markets with local influencers, livestream coverage from prominent Fortnite content creators in the US, UK, and MENA regions, and 30 physical replica Fizzookas shipped to creators in customized flight cases.

Results

The Fizzooka was fired 12.1 million times and played for 40 million minutes. The campaign achieved a Silver Award at the 2026 Clio Awards in the Games category.
