Objective

MINI sought to engage Facebook users with an innovative interactive experience that showcased the brand's vehicles while demonstrating their performance characteristics. The goal was to create an entertainment platform where the brand presence served product discovery, enabling players to unlock and customize different MINI models within a competitive social gaming environment.

Solution

MINI Maps was a multiplayer racing game built on Flash and deployed as a Facebook application. Players selected real-world locations from Google Maps to create custom race routes, competing against friends or ghost car records through a Flash Media Server infrastructure. The game featured 9 unlockable MINI models with distinct handling characteristics and custom horn sounds, dynamic weather data from Google Weather Service, and realistic driving physics including collision detection and road-boundary constraints. Players could customize vehicle paint colors, and the game incorporated time-of-day effects such as headlights during nighttime racing.
