Objective

Brady United, America's oldest gun violence prevention organization, developed this satirical game to counter political claims that video games cause mass shootings. Following the August 2019 mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, when U.S. politicians—including President Trump—again blamed violent games for gun violence, Brady United responded with a tongue-in-cheek reversal: if games cause violence, perhaps a game can help prevent it.

Solution

League of Legislators is a platform game where players assume the role of a U.S. congressional representative navigating the Capitol. The core mechanic requires players to dodge gun lobbyists and their bribes while advancing toward the legislative chambers to pass gun reform legislation. Styled as an 8-bit retro platformer, the game directly satirizes the gaming-violence narrative while advocating for actual gun control policy. Created by Juniper Park\TBWA and deployed on Brady United's website, the game was published in September 2019.
