Objective
Le Bon Marché needed a way to stretch its spring-summer 2017 men's catalogue — themed around a border-erasing, real-to-virtual "homme-monde" — into a digital experience that would pull catalogue readers back into the store during the six-week seasonal window. A playable tie-in gave the store a reason to bring people back online and in-store, with a prize draw as the added incentive to convert that attention into a visit.
Solution
Landing on the "Vu au Bon Marché" promo page, the player reads four quick instruction cards, then drops straight into a pixel-art platformer that only scrolls up. Using left and right, the character climbs automatically, so the player's real job is timing: grab coins on the way, dodge the monsters that pop into the path, and ease off when a hazard looms ahead so the climb doesn't run them straight into it. There are four levels to clear before the run ends, at which point the screen shows the level reached and the score, with options to share the result or start over. On mobile, the game asks the player to rotate their phone before it will run.
- 1
Players land on a promo page for Le Bon Marché's campaign, showing four animated pixel-art cards and a "Jouez" button; mobile visitors in portrait orientation are asked to rotate their phone, and a cookie-consent banner must be accepted before play can start.
- 2
A four-card tutorial explains the controls before the run: steer the automatically-climbing hero left and right (arrow keys or swipe), collect coins while climbing, watch for monsters and hazards ahead, and brake the ascent (down arrow or screen tap) when needed.
- 3
Tapping "C'est parti!" starts the run: the pixel hero climbs continuously while the player shifts it between platforms, grabs coins, and brakes to dodge monsters or gaps, aiming to escape the monsters while building a score.
- 4
The climb is split into four levels, each with its own visual setting; clearing one moves the hero into the next level's décor and the ascent continues.
- 5
Dying before reaching the goal ends the run on a loss screen reporting the level reached and the final score, with an animation of the hero falling.
- 6
Reaching the target triggers a win screen reporting the level reached and the final score.
- 7
From either end screen, players can share their score or restart for another run.
- 8
During the campaign, playing entered visitors into a draw for a Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche gift card worth up to €1,000 in store purchases.
- 9
A separate Crédits screen lists the concept, illustration, production, and sound design credits, with a "Retour" button to return to the game.
