Objective

Gucci partnered with professional surfer Leonardo Fioravanti to create an interactive gaming experience that combined fashion merchandising with environmental awareness. The campaign aimed to engage a younger, digitally-native audience interested in both luxury fashion and sustainable ocean conservation during summer 2020.

Solution

Gucci Surf is a browser-based surfing game playable across desktop, mobile browsers, and the Gucci App. Players control Leonardo Fioravanti as he uses surfing and 'magic tricks' to clean plastic pollution from the ocean while avoiding sea creatures. The game features gesture-based controls, smooth animations, and visual effects built with WebGL, Three.js, and PixiJS. Successful gameplay unlocks Gucci merchandise cosmetics including sunglasses, boardshorts, and surfboards for the player's avatar. The game is responsive across all platforms and emphasizes colorful, dynamic visual design.
