Objective

Verizon sought to engage millions of football fans during Super Bowl LVI by creating a first-of-its-kind virtual stadium experience in Fortnite. The campaign aimed to demonstrate the potential of 5G Ultra Wideband technology for large-scale interactive virtual events and reach a digitally-native, younger audience through one of the world's largest gaming platforms.

Solution

R/GA and Momentum Worldwide developed a virtual stadium inspired by Raymond James Stadium architecture, built directly in Fortnite with top community builders (Maka Makes, Shride, and Pimit). The experience featured interactive games and activities for players, with 5G connectivity highlighted as enabling smooth, high-quality gameplay at scale. The stadium was activated during Super Bowl week, allowing millions of Fortnite players to visit, participate in stadium-themed games, and engage with the Verizon brand within the gaming environment.

Results

40 million players visited the stadium in-game; 2+ million tuned in on Twitch; 1.5 million engaged with stadium games. Verizon became the most-discussed telecom brand during Super Bowl week. The campaign won a 2021 Clio Sports Bronze award and recognition at The Webby Awards and The One Show.
