Objective
Supercell's first esports competition, the Clash Royale League, drew 25 million players vying for a spot on a pro roster, but the World Finals risked leaving its vast fan base as passive viewers. Supercell wanted to turn that audience into active participants in the broadcast, tying what happened on stream to rewards inside the game itself, giving millions of players a reason to open Clash Royale during the finals.
Solution
An Esports tab inside the game's News feed opens onto Fantasy Royale, where the player picks four pros from the World Finals lineup to build a fantasy squad ahead of a set deadline. Locking in the roster pays out a free CRL emote immediately. From there the player watches the finals on YouTube or Twitch while their own score climbs in real time, since every crown their picks win on stream becomes a crown on the player's tally. Final standings appear on an in-game leaderboard, and rewards — gems, or gold in the 2020 edition — land in the player's account a few days after the finals wrap. In the 2019 regular season a weekly transfer window let players reshuffle their squad, though points only counted for whoever was rostered at the moment of each match.
Results
Fantasy Royale drew over 6 million participants worldwide for the 2018 World Finals edition, and 2,000 of them split a one-million-gem prize pool.
- 1
Players discover Fantasy Royale inside Clash Royale itself, through a News section Esports tab that announces the event ahead of the Clash Royale League World Finals.
- 2
Players draft a fantasy team by picking four professional Clash Royale League competitors from a roster of World Finals players, shown with portraits and club affiliations; the picks are the player's bet on who will perform best.

- 3
The roster must be locked in before a fixed deadline ahead of the broadcast, or the player forfeits any reward.
- 4
Completing a team earns an immediate reward — a set of Clash Royale League emotes credited to the account shortly after signup.

- 5
Players can show off and compare their drafted rosters against other fans' picks.
- 6
In the season-long 2019 edition, players return weekly during a transfer window to swap one player in their roster, though crowns only count toward whoever was on the roster at match time.
- 7
On finals day, players watch the live broadcast and track a running score that adds a crown for every crown their drafted players win in the real matches, checking their rank on an in-game leaderboard.

- 8
After the finals, players receive prizes graded by final standing — gems, gold, or an emote depending on the season and rank achieved — credited to the account within a few days of the event ending.
