Objective

The US Air Force needed to attract young prospects aged 16-24 to military service by providing an interactive, engaging introduction to Air Force careers. The campaign aimed to showcase the depth and diversity of over 60 available positions and operational roles within the Air Force in a way that resonated with the gaming demographic.

Solution

Airman Challenge is a WebGL-based game featuring 16 playable missions that simulate real Air Force operations. Players select a squadron with distinct emblems representing different operational branches, then choose and complete missions while building teams from actual Air Force positions. Upon mission completion, players earn experience points and rank up through authentic Air Force ranks and badges. The game was built using CreateJS framework and hosted on airforce.com with heavy load-balancing to handle traffic surges. The experience evolved from an initial microsite into a featured interactive activation on the homepage of airforce.com.

Results

Airman Challenge received Awwwards Site of the Day recognition on June 5, 2017, with an overall score of 8.12/10 and a Creativity score of 8.69/10.
