Objective
Sony Pictures needed to sell the speed and spectacle of its hero to the summer 2012 opening of "The Amazing Spider-Man" — and to phone-toting fans specifically, giving them a taste of that motion before they ever bought a ticket. Putting a playable game right on the film's official site kept visitors there longer than a trailer ever could.
Solution
You open the link on your phone's browser, no app download required, and you're instantly playing as Spider-Man on the rooftops of the city. He runs automatically along the skyline; you tap to make him leap the gaps between buildings, scale the sides of skyscrapers, and swing across to the next tower before he falls. The game keeps pushing the pace, so each stretch of rooftop demands a faster read on the next jump than the last. A run ends the moment a leap comes up short and Spider-Man misses his landing.
- 1
The player opens the game directly in a mobile web browser on the film's official site, with no app install required.
- 2
Controlling Spider-Man, the player runs across rooftops and jumps from one building to the next, clearing the gaps between them.
- 3
The traversal expands as the player climbs up the side of a skyscraper and leaps between towers, adding vertical movement to the horizontal run.
- 4
The game keeps a fast pace throughout, rewarding speed and momentum, with levels increasing in difficulty as the player progresses.
