Objective

Carvana wanted to bring the ease and excitement of buying a used car to the flip side of the transaction — trading one in. The dealer's-appraisal moment tends to feel like a chore, so the brand turned it into something that could stop a scroll instead. The experience also needed to travel: one build that could run at events, in campaigns, and across digital channels while generating leads and tracking engagement.

Solution

The game opens as a set of three quick, 8-bit-style arcade rounds playable right in the browser, on a phone, a desktop, or a screen set up at an event. In Mileage Hero, the player keeps a car's odometer reading low as it ticks upward. In Feature Catcher, they catch desirable options falling from the top of the screen while dodging the bad ones. In Obstacle Dodger, they steer around hazards in the road. Every good move nudges the car's estimated value up, so playing well doubles as a stand-in for what actually happens during a trade-in appraisal. A session runs just a minute or two before the player is dropped back into Carvana's flow to get a real quote on their own car.

How it plays

5 steps
  1. 1

The game opens on an 8-bit arcade title screen built around a car graphic, inviting the player to start the trade-in experience.

  2. 2

In Mileage Hero, the player works to keep the car's mileage low, treating every unit of distance as a hit to the car's value.

  3. 3

In Feature Catcher, car features fall from the top of the screen and the player catches the good ones while dodging the bad ones, with each correct catch raising the car's value.

  4. 4

In Obstacle Dodger, the player steers the car around roadblocks, with a smoother run improving the odds of sealing the sale.

  5. 5

The three minigames run as a single browser-based experience with no app install, playable on phone, desktop, or an event installation screen.
