Objective
Oxygen, a true-crime television network, created an immersive AR experience to deepen fan engagement and extend its content beyond the screen. The app aimed to leverage the network's crime-focused programming by transforming viewers into active investigators solving a fictional murder mystery within their own homes, blending entertainment with interactive gameplay.
Solution
Forensic Detective: Inside the Crime Scene is an iOS mobile app built with Apple's ARKit that creates a life-size, hologram-like crime scene in the player's physical space. Players scan their room, then investigate the murder of Trent Park, a musician, using AR tools to analyze ballistics, fingerprints, phone records, blood samples, and shell casings. The 7-minute guided narrative features four suspects (the victim's manager Dakota, bassist Liam, brother Roscoe, and wife Amber Lynn) and uses vertical plane detection to anchor clues and evidence on walls. The app was released on May 31, 2018, with a preview at CrimeCon 2018 in Nashville.
