Objective
NASA launched the Artemis Minecraft Education partnership to engage students aged 8+ with the agency's next generation of human spaceflight missions. The program aims to inspire the 'Artemis Generation' to pursue careers in STEM and see themselves as future astronauts and scientists, positioning space exploration as an achievable aspiration during a period of renewed lunar exploration efforts.
Solution
NASA partnered with Minecraft Education to create a series of three interconnected educational missions within the Minecraft platform. Players progress through 'Artemis: Rocket Build' (designing and launching a functional rocket), 'Return to the Moon' (programming an Orion spacecraft for lunar landing using coding skills), and 'Moon Base One' (collaboratively constructing a sustainable lunar habitat while learning environmental engineering). The first mission is freely available on both the Minecraft Marketplace and Minecraft Education; the other two are exclusive to Minecraft Education for classroom deployment.
