Objective

Minecraft aimed to create a viral campaign bridging Gen A players and adult audiences by leveraging the game's core tension: the joy of creation followed by inevitable loss. Ice Cube partnership provided cross-generational cultural relevance while the comedic 'claims adjuster' concept turned a player pain point—losing items on death—into social-first entertainment. The campaign drove engagement with a new Marketplace Add-On and positioned Minecraft's playful frustration as comedic fodder.

Solution

Six short-form films (~60 seconds each, released daily August 14–20, 2025) featured Ice Cube as Minecraft's first 'Insurance Claims Adjuster,' reviewing player-submitted in-game losses via social media using #CubeClaim. Ice Cube delivered exaggerated, deadpan verdicts on destroyed builds and lost inventory, styled after 1990s infomercial absurdism. The campaign included five videos featuring gaming creators' claims and live reactions to fan submissions. A companion 'Insurance Adjuster Add-On' launched on Minecraft Marketplace, spawning an NPC on player death that recovered lost items, granted bonus rewards, or triggered exclusive boss fights with rare cosmetic rewards (trophies, custom gear). Directed by Fatal Farm; produced by Neighborhood Watch and Uncles Unlimited.

Results

The campaign won recognition in the 2026 D&AD Awards under the Digital Marketing category.
