Objective
KFC targeted Gen Z gamers frustrated by misleading mobile game advertisements (100+ million downloads of fake ads that failed to deliver on their promises). The brand sought to build authentic presence in the mobile gaming space its audience frequents while satirizing the deceptive ad landscape.
Solution
Created four free, fully playable mobile games that recreate iconic fake-ad scenarios: 'The One with Rolling Barrels,' 'The Trapped King One,' 'The One with the Giant Pin,' and 'The Weird Tennis One.' Each game offers 5–15 minutes of gameplay with a global leaderboard. KFC rewards and promotions were integrated into the app. Games launched on iOS App Store and Google Play. The campaign was promoted through gaming influencers and programmatic ads styled to mimic fake game advertisements, targeting audiences already exposed to clickbait gaming ads.
Results
Downloads of KFC's Original Fake Games exceeded expectations by 300%, and according to a brand survey, KFC ranked as the number-one QSR with the gaming target audience.
